Activity log

See what FOLD is doing with your servers: sync steps and the SMTP conversation, kept in memory only. Mac only.

The activity log shows what FOLD is doing in the background. It is the first place to look when sync stalls, a folder stays empty or a message is not sent. It exists only on the Mac; iPhone and iPad have no activity log yet.

Opening it

Click the list button at the right end of the toolbar above the message list (tooltip Activity). A panel opens with the newest entries at the top. The button is hidden while the search field is expanded.

Clear empties the log.

What it shows

Sync steps, for example:

  • which server, port and encryption mode a sync uses, and which folder,
  • how many messages were new, updated or removed,
  • folders found, created, renamed or deleted,
  • each full message downloaded, with its size and the result of the completeness check,
  • the stored authentication verdict and verified brand logos,
  • pauses, for example while a Fortress account is locked,
  • errors, with their technical description.

The SMTP conversation of every sending attempt: each command FOLD sends (→) and each reply of the server (←) with its code and text. This is where you find the reason why a server refused a message. The sign-in step is shown as → <auth>; your password never appears.

For IMAP, the log lists the steps, not the individual protocol lines.

The sync entries are currently written in German only. Codes, host names and SMTP replies are the same in every language.

Privacy

  • The log is kept in memory only. FOLD does not write it to a file and does not send it anywhere.
  • It holds the last 300 entries; older ones are dropped.
  • It is empty after FOLD restarts.

The log contains host names, folder names and, in the SMTP conversation, sender and recipient addresses. Check it before you share a copy, for example in a support request.
